We’re no real estate dum-dums. If you don’t follow me on Facebook, you are safe from the daily barrage of realtor.ca nightmares and daydreams. Kim and I have been steadily house hunting and gathering for a solid year now, and have watched our max price budget steadily climb over $100,000 from where we started. We’ve […]

Our Recent Impact
by BAFA @ Burbank Arts For All – An Education Foundation
Fri Oct 20 15:05:41 PDT 2017
Arts education inspires creativity and innovation in every student who learns through the arts. Here are just a few highlights from the recent impact of Burbank Arts for All Foundation’s investments in the arts for the students, teachers and administration in BUSD! For more stories about our impact, please click here! Thanks to your support, we are making a difference in the lives of Burbank’s public school students. Please enjoy the following stories of our impact! DEVELOPING FINE MOTOR SKILLS AT GEORGE WASHINGTON George Washington Elementary School | Funded Fall 2015 To provide the TK and Kindergarten students with opportunities to explore painting while exercising their fine and large gross motor skills, Washington Elementary purchased easels that accommodate 6-8 students at any given time. By being portable and allowing a large number of students to paint at once, the easels are able to be used on a daily and weekly basis. According to Principal Brandi Young, “Students have ample opportunities to use their creativity and exercise their fine and large motor skills. It’s great when I walk the campus and I see students painting. I love the opportunities they get each week.” “DISNEY DREAMS” Walt Disney Elementary School | Funded Spring […]

A story of murders in the ER becomes, courtesy of writer Paddy Chayefsky, either a preview of social breakdown or an impassioned examination of why we invest our lives and souls in imperfect institutions. George C. Scott is the doctor coming apart at the seams, who meets his match in a New Age hippie...
Microadventure: Prince Edward County
by jules09 @ Passport Please – Alphabet Soup
Tue May 26 22:33:02 PDT 2015
Have you ever worried that maybe you’ve over-romanticized a place? Did nostalgia and gauzy honeymoon love make it something it wasn’t? The last (and only time in this decade) that Kim and I were in Prince Edward County was a miserable September weekend in 2010. The skies were bruised with clouds and rain spit on us […]

What an entry, what a start on the BBC. This is Jim Paice, the brand new British minister of agriculture, launching his new policy “those guies who have been telling me for years, they are the best people to protect nature; now it is time they prove it.” The minister seems to be willing to take the [...]

Prince Edible Island: An Insider’s Guide to Eating Your Way Around PEI

It seemed appropriate that the first two songs we heard in our fancy Mini Clubman rental were: Here Comes the Rain Again—Eurythmics You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet—BTO And, nope we hadn’t seen anything yet because the fog from Charlottetown’s airport to Summerside was like driving into a giant steam room. I’ve been to the island […]

Three years ago when we first moved to Broadstairs I had just a tiny inkling of the history of the area known as the Isle of Thanet. Formed when sea-levels rose after the last glacial period (around 5000BC), with links to the Stone Age and Bronze Age, at the time of the Romans the Isle […]
Adventures in Real Estating: Prince Edward County
by jules09 @ Alphabet Soup
Thu May 26 09:14:45 PDT 2016
A trip to Prince Edward County guarantees two things: an opportunity to restore the senses and wine cellar. This is where I’d suggest a scratch and sniff option for the screen—not only are there lilac bushes here–they are full-on forests of perfumed mauve goodness. Last Saturday, Kim and I thought we had locked in on […]

As Kim will readily attest, it’s dangerous leaving me idle with a nearby laptop on a snow-pounded day. First, as per routine, I will scour the real estate listings in Prince Edward County and surrounds like a public health nurse armed with a nit comb. In the event of a search with no immediate house […]

My Bloody Valentine

With a title so good it was adopted as the namesake of a long-running Irish band, this brutal Canadian slasher movie received some cuts itself (totaling nine minutes) for its excessive violence. Hungarian-born director George Mihalka went on to a sturdy career including the Harry Palmer opus Bullet to Beijing starring Michael Caine.
Prince George: The Hub of Northern BC
by Ingrid Vermegen @ British Columbia Bed & Breakfast Blog

Prince George is considered the hub of Northern BC, yet if you look at the BC map, it’s not even half way up the province if you’re counting from the US border. This “northern capital” city, with a population of around 74,000, is not only the center for culture and shopping, but has a huge […]

Princess Cake aka The Duchess Cake at Duchess Atelier breathed joy into Gramsy The Princess Cake! What?
